Ocean Wave Energy: Current Status and Future Prespectives |
|

|
The authors of this reference provide an updated and global view on ocean wave energy conversion for wave energy developers as well as for students and academics. The book is orientated to the practical solutions that the industry has found so far and the problems that any device needs to face. It describes the actual principles applied to machines that convert wave power in electricity. Additionally, an historical review, state of the art of modern systems, a full scale prototype experience, and future perspectives are given. The authors are recognised researchers, and their contributions give an overall perspective of the state of the art of different technologies. The book does not intend to point to a specific technology; the market will be responsible for that. The main motivation to compile these texts is to provide, both to academia and industry, a first contact with the current status of wave energy conversion technologies, hopefully inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists.

Analysis of Tidal Stream Power |

The Analysis of Tidal Stream Power reviews the tidal resources around the world as well as discussing the devices developed. The book presents, for the first time, research results covering the analysis of tidal stream power in Europe, North American and Australia. This book is divided into six Chapters. Chapter One details history of tidal science and includes biographical information on major figures, Chapters Two and Three draw upon recent research work to cover the application of fluid dynamics to tidal theory and to the physical principles of tidal stream power devices. The result is a set of analytical algorithms that enable the calculation of electrical energy at any tidal site from either chart data or relatively short–term current meter records. Chapters Four to Six represent the application of these algorithms to conditions in Europe, North America and Australia respectively based upon a mass of local data.

Ocean Energy: Tide & Tidal Power |

Man has been tapping the energy of the sea to provide power for his industries for centuries. Tidal energy combined with that of waves and marine winds rank among those most successfully put the work. Large scale plants are capital intensive but smaller ones, particularly built in China, have proven profitable. Since the initiation of the St Malo project in France, similar projects have gone into active service where methods have been devised to cut down on costs, new types of turbines developed and cost competitiveness considerably improved. Tidal power has enormous potential. The book reviews recent progress in extracting power from the ocean, surveys the history of tidal power harnessing and updates a prior publication by the author.
