ORPC announces Cobscook Bay tidal project

An Energy Tide 2 (ET2) turbine generator unit (TGU) will be launched in Cobscook Bay, Maine early next year to demonstrate the performance of the commercial design of the Ocean Renewable Power Company's system, it was announced last week. The new installation follows a year-long demonstration program in 2008, and is expected to be followed with the installation of the first full-scale, grid-connected tidal TGU in Maine by the end of 2010.

In-stream tidal turbine deployed in the Bay of Fundy

The first commercial scale in-stream tidal turbine in the Bay of Fundy was deployed last week (12th November) by Nova Scotia Power and its tidal technology partner OpenHydro. The one-megawatt commercial scale turbine was deployed from the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE), in the Minas Passage.

EU look set to support marine energy says Frost & Sullivan

The UK government and the EU look likely to extend long-awaited lifelines to the marine energy sector, according analysts Frost & Sullivan. The nascent European marine energy industry, says the company, is still weathering storms unleashed by the global economic crisis, but can recover if government support and new investments materialise.

Oz government supports wave power project with A$66.5m grant

A grant of A$66.46 million (approx $61m), to build a 19 MW wave power project off the coast of Victoria, has been awarded by the Federal Government of Australia to a partnership between Ocean Power Technologies (Australasia) Pty Ltd and Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd. The award was announced on Friday (6th November) by the Australian Resources & Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson, as part of the government's Renewable Energy Demonstration Program (REDP).
