Ireland has opportunity to lead world in ocean energy
Tuesday, 09 September 2008 12:44
U.S. Ambassador to Ireland: Thomas C. FoleyIreland is looking at a "once in a generation opportunity" to take a global lead in the field of ocean energy according to the US Ambassador to Ireland Thomas C. Foley. Speaking to the Irish Marine Institute in Galway recently Ambassador Foley said that now was the time to, "take advantage of an exceptional opportunity that all the money in the world and brilliant policy making couldn't create own their own."

He continued; "I see a technological clustering opportunity in Ireland around ocean energy.  Ireland has probably the best 'natural market' in the world for developing ocean energy potential.  Ireland's natural advantage means that all other things being equal, it has an economic advantage over competitors.  This is like having a horse at the track with a 300 meter advantage at the start – it's your race to lose.

Oregon show to boost ocean energy prospects in NE USA
Monday, 08 September 2008 09:47
The third annual ocean energy conference, Ocean Wave Renewable Energy Conference, is set to open in Coos Bay, Oregon in just over two weeks time (25th - 26th September). The Oregon coast, say the organizers, is one of the most promising sites for the generation of wave energy in all of North America. The combination of high-energy waves, an established industry base, high demand for new renewable energy across the Western US and a culture of established interest in green innovation and environmental issues make the state a likely spot for the development of wave energy. Governor Ted Kulongoski has made the development of the wave energy a priority and the Oregon Innovation Council designated $4.2 million to support the development of this emerging industry. Oregon's return on investment will result in new, high wage jobs and clean energy.
